Hi everyone! I have missed you all! Thank you so much for all your kind thoughts and worries – they made a difference. I’m happy to tell you that, as of today, I’m healing and my doctor is pleased with my progress. So here’s what happened…
I was seeing floaters in my left eye – very distracting and worrisome. I called a friend of mine who is an eye specialist. I had taught her children and we’d gotten to know each other so I felt comfortable asking for an opinion. I went to see her and, as she’s doing the exam, she exclaimed, “I see your floater!” And then she continued to examine me – and I just knew that this was Not Good. After the exam, she told me that I had a detached retina and would have to go to a retinal specialist. She called him and personally drove me to his office! I’d called my husband and told him that I had an appointment but had no idea how serious this would turn out to be.
When we got to the retinal specialist, they saw me within 10 minutes and immediately did the first procedure. They injected a gas bubble in my eye (ew!), patched my eye, and sent me home to sit in a very precise position (45 degrees on my right side – no moving!) My doctor friend stayed with me during the entire procedure and even drove me home. Needless to say, my husband was very surprised!
I went back to see him the next day (this time, with my husband), and although the gas bubble had sealed most of the detachment, it still wasn’t totally completely sealed. So they did another procedure. This time, they did a freezing procedure. It was very painful. (The first procedure was okay, oddly.) They sent me back home to sit in my same position – no moving, no reading, no lifting, no blogging, no nothing! I could watch television or play computer games.
Two days later, we went back – and the first detachment was sealed – BUT there was another detached part! Not Good. They scheduled a surgery for that afternoon at the surgery center, this time to do a laser treatment to seal the entire eye. I was totally FREAKED OUT.
We went back to the doctor the next morning and they took off the bandages – and I couldn’t see a thing! I was so scared – Don (my hubby) said that the doctor had told me that this would happen but I don’t honestly remember.
However, after a couple of days, I started to “see” things. At first, all I could see was light; Then I could start to see shapes, then blurs, and finally, after a couple of weeks, I started to really see! Now, I can see as well as I could before the surgery!
I truly believe this was a miracle!
So, that’s where I’ve been and why I haven’t been blogging! I should be back more consistently now: My eye is still somewhat uncomfortable so, on the days it bugs me, I won’t be on the computer. However, I’m grateful and happy to be back – even if it is only part time. I missed you all!
